Hii :)
I waned to do a three part series to do with somewhere which holds a special place for me, I know i've mentioned it so much on here but it's stuff that I want to share and express. I found three quotes which I found really true to my personal experience and wanted to then reflect on my experience based on the specific quotes. :)
"No city invites the heart to come to life as San Francisco does. Arrival in San Francisco is an experience in living."
I feel like this quote really is incredibly true. When I first arrived I felt awful, tired and ill, but that is clearly down to being on a 11 hour flight and having 8 hours sleep in 24 hours. Looking back it seems that I didn't appreciate the first few hours left of my first day well enough. After we'd checked in etc we decided to try and explore the area where we were staying and try to get our bearings for the next three days ahead of us. We were staying two blocks down from the embarcadero, which was one of the coolest streets in the city in my opinion, it was full of hustle and bustle and definitely a popular tourist attraction. The closest pier to us was 39, Fishermans Wharf. It was so packed with restaurants, amusements, shops and activities, and street performers, not to mention the amazing views from the second floor.
Hence the fact it was 6pm I was incredibly cold, especially being right next to the bay which was giving off a slight breeze. We stopped at 'The Hook' a sea food restaurant where we shared some fries for dinner, healthy. The embarcadero area surrounding was covered with colourful street performers, which I must say was one of the most amazing atmospheres and parts of the trip.
We wanted to take a quick walk to the small section of sand to the left of Fisherman's Wharf infant of Ghirardelli Square, which was full of children playing and sea gulls, which are terrifying might I add, but the whole atmosphere of Pier 39 was amazing. So many cultures and people everywhere which was one of the coolest things to be a part of.
I think seeing it in real life, for example the bay and alcatraz, and even the street cars was incredible and surreal as it looked picture perfect and exactly like google images. From this one hour we spent exploring after we landed, I felt so inspired and relaxed, yet deeply welcomed by everyone, which is one of the reasons why it seems so homely to me, everything is so inviting and somewhere I could temporarily see myself in the future.
Just going to sleep that evening seeing the golden gate bridge out of my hotel window was crazy. Somewhere I'd dreamed of for years to be infront of me? Despite the crazy over tiredness this day was amazing and I'll never forget the feeling of walking through the craziness which is Fisherman's Wharf and experiencing the amazing city of San Francisco for the first, and most definitely not the last, time.
These are a few pictures taken on the slightly overcast day that we arrived on.
